This summer, the Polish performer Radosław Marzec will give two recitals in Belgium, in the St. Saviour’s Cathedral in Bruges and in St. Peter’s Church in Oostkamp

Two concerts as part of the summer event – Kathedraalfestival Brugge 2022:

On Tuesday 2 August at 8.30pm in the prestigious Bruges Cathedral Radosław Marzec will present a selection of works from a manuscript attributed to Jan of Lublin and entitled ‘Tablatura Ioannis de Lyublin canonic: regularium de Crasnyc’. The book, which has 260 pages, was probably written between 1537 and 1548 in Kraków and Kraśnik. It is the most complete 16th-century organ tablature in Europe. The concert programmes will include works by Mikhail Verbytsky, a Ukrainian Greek Catholic priest and composer of the Ukrainian hymnal, Jan of Lublin, Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Liszt, which form the basis of Europe’s musical heritage for the organ.

On Thursday 4 August, the Polish organist will perform music by 17th-century Spanish composers such as Sebastián Aguilera de Heredia, Franinciso Correa de Arauxo, Fray Cristóbal de San Jerónimo and others on the organs of St Peter’s Church in Oostkamp, in addition to works by Jan de Lublin and Verbytsky.

Radosław Marzec is considered one of the best Polish organists. He is currently professor of musical art in the organ class of the instrumental department of the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz and also gives recitals in Poland and abroad.The Bruges Cathedral Summer Concerts are an international series of historical organ concerts.

The Polish Institute in Brussels has been collaborating with the Kathedraalfestival Brugge for almost ten years.
