KIEŚLOWSKI’s DECALOGUE in images and music

The KLARAFESTIVAL is screening all of the DEKALOG (Decalogue) films by Krzysztof KIEŚLOWSKI. The director released this series of ten medium-length films at the end of the 1980’s: coming at the very time when the communist regime was giving way to democracy, the director achieved the renown which he was owed with these films, and his wave of critical acclaim continued with his Trilogy (Blue, White and Red) and The Double Life of Veronique
To mark the 20th anniversary of K. KIEŚLOWSKI’s death, all ten films will be shown at Flagey as part of the KLARAFESTIVAL at a rate of 2 consecutive films per day from 9 March. The high point of the series of screenings will be the anniversary of the death of Kieślowski, on Sunday 13 March. The following are planned:

  • A conference led by the musicologist Nicholas REYLAND (Keele University, United Kingdom) on the role of Zbigniew PREISNER’s music in the films of Krzysztof KIEŚLOWSKI and the relationship between religion and Polish music in the XXth century;
  • The screening of the two final instalments of DEKALOG;
  • The concert Kieślowski’s Decalogue in music, played by the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic & Choir conducted by Zbigniew PREISNER himself. Under the patronage of HE Mr. Artur HARAZIM, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Belgium.
