Brussels Cinema Days
“This year, to mark the 25th anniversary of the MEDIA Programme of the European Commission, which supports the development and distribution of the best films throughout the continent, the Brussels Cinema Days are focusing on European cinema. The festival, which features around twenty films and brings together thirty or so personalities, kicks off with A Wedding, screened in the presence of its Belgian director, Stephan Streker. This moving work tells the tale of a pregnant young Belgo-Pakistani girl who is forced to face up to parental pressure, and was selected at the last Toronto Film Festival. The Italian filmmaker Marco Bellochio will close the event with Sweet Dreams a disturbing film, which was screened at the 2016 Director’s Fortnight, in which a journalist is confronted with his childhood wounds. With new films such as United States of Love by Tomasz Wasilewski and Caini by Bogdan Mirica, and other, less recent prized works by Jaco Van Dormael and the Dardenne Brothers, the Brussels Cinema Days also want to build bridges between the past, present and future of cinema. This major event, which is just as much for the uninitiated as it for the discerning film-goer, is a BOZAR production. It has been made possible thanks to a fruitful collaboration with the Media Programme, CINEMATEK and Visit Brussels.” (BOZAR)
