Exhibition The Polish Comic Strip at the La Fête de la BD Festival in Brussels
On the occasion of the Comic Strip Festival, we present an exhibition of about thirty Polish cartoonists
If there is one trend that unites Polish artists and distinguishes them from European comics, it would be this attraction to artistic comics. Contemporary Polish comics are developing primarily as an art form rather than as commercial entertainment. Of course, this modest exhibition does not show the whole wealth of our comics, but only a part. We present works by a selection of contemporary cartoonists and some artists who created during the communist and pre-war periods, while hoping to encourage you to gain a better understanding of Polish comics and their artists. Among the works on display are plates from the first Wiedźmin comic book “The Witcher”, based on the prose of Andrzej Sapkowski. Several Polish artists have already published in French, including Tadeusz Baranowski, Jakub Rebelka, Trust and Gawron. Maria Rostocka’s comic book “The End of July” has been nominated for an award at the FIBD Angoulême 2022.
