Krystian Lupa, a total theatre maker, has established himself as a creator of adaptations, a set designer, a lighting designer and an actor’s director.
His shows are marked by a singular work on rhythm, slowed down time in the unfolding of the stage action, often concentrated around moments of crisis.
His work has received multiple awards, including the Europe Prize for Theatre (2009).
“Imagine’, his new show, refers to New Age ideas and the cultural revolution of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Using the lyrics of John Lennon’s song ‘Imagine’ as a starting point, Krystian Lupa asks the question of the viability of utopias in today’s world, including New Age ideas, visions of a world without wars, states, property and hatred.
(…) We know that the Polish theatre is one of the strongest in Europe in terms of drama, acting and stage design.
The proposal to collaborate with such a master as Krystian Lupa to produce a play exploring the transformations of the John Lennon era seemed an obvious one to pursue,” says Serge Rangoni, director of the Théâtre de Liège (…)
The play, which premiered last April, was produced by Teatr Powszechny in Warsaw and Teatr Powszechny in Lodz.
