The Museum of the Family Home of the Holy Father John Paul II in Wadowice is an institution that, at the birthplace and childhood home of the Polish Pope Karol Wojtyła, takes care of his broad legacy. In collaboration with the Polska.Lu association, the Embassy of Poland in Luxembourg, and the Polish Institute in Brussels, the project “Saint John Paul II and Robert Schuman – Patrons of United Europe” has been realized. The result of this project is an exhibition dedicated to these two great figures of the 20th century.

John Paul II can be considered one of the “founding fathers” of united Europe—not in the institutional sense, but in the spiritual sense. Without his multifaceted activities, meetings with heads of state, politicians, and influential figures, it is difficult to imagine the peaceful fall of the “Iron Curtain” and the subsequent European integration process. Robert Schuman, on the other hand, is one of the founders of the European Union, the Council of Europe, and NATO. This politician, born in Luxembourg and former Prime Minister of France, significantly contributed to the creation of the European community aimed at preserving peace after World War II.

The project’s implementation coincides with significant anniversaries: the 60th anniversary of Robert Schuman’s death in 2023 and the 20th anniversary of Poland’s accession to the European Union in 2024, as part of the largest enlargement in the history of the Community.
