Music festival: Philharmonic and choir of the National Forum of Music at the Tomorrow Will Be Too Late festival in DE SINGEL, Antwerp
We invite you to concerts of Polish musicians at the Tomorrow Will Be Too Late festival. The festival in the program of the Antwerp performing arts center DE SINGEL is an artistic attempt to reflect on art and ecology, the changing global climate and the growing social problems caused by these changes.
The musical part of the festival will feature the National Forum of Music bands, the philharmonic orchestra, the choir and the LutosAir Quintet band, which will perform the award-winning “Become” trilogy by John Luther Adams and concerts with a strong presence of works by contemporary Polish composers.
Events programme:
17.10.2024 (Thursday) – 20:00
NFM Wrocław Philharmonic / Mirian Khukhunaishvili
Fournel plays Chopin / Become Ocean
Winner of the 2021 edition of the Queen Elisabeth Competition for piano Jonathan Fournel dives into the romantic emotional world of the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin. The Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra, one of Poland’s leading orchestras, is conducted by rising star Mirian Khukhunaishvili. After the interval they send you into the night with Become Ocean by the American composer John Luther Adams.
18.10 (Friday) – 20:00
NFM Choir
Kurpian Forest in Song
The NFM Choir will be giving a ‘solo concert’ entitled Kurpian Forest in Song. The Kurpie region was separated from the rest of Poland by a large forest, which over the centuries resulted in its own unique music. In 1928, the Polish priest Władysław Skierkowski gathered numerous Kurpian songs in the collection Kurpian Forest in Song. The collection became a huge source of inspiration for composers such as Henryk Gorécki and Karol Szymanowski, who made their own choral arrangements of these songs.
18.10 (Friday) – 21:00
LutosAir Quintet
The Oak Crown
The LutosAir Quintet, consisting of five musicians playing wind instruments from the NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic, is widely acclaimed both in Poland and internationally. Their concert at De Singel will shed light on contemporary Polish composition and the international standing of the wind quintet.
19.10 (Saturday) – 20:00
NFM Wrocław Philharmonic / NFM Choir
Become River & Become Desert
NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic and the NFM Choir plunge into two parts of John Luther Adams’ Becomecycle. The choir and orchestra of the National Forum of Music in Wroclaw, Poland, present these works as a special immersive experience.
