Film : Silver / Natalia Koniarz / BOZAR

Film: Silver by Natalia Koniarz at BOZAR

The documentary Silver by Natalia Koniarz (2025) paints a striking portrait of life in the highest silver mine in Bolivia. Families live there in an arid landscape where the search for the precious metal defines existence itself. Exhausting labor, constant danger, and psychological tension shape everyday life. Children learn to defend themselves against violence, while spirituality remains a fragile anchor. The visually breathtaking images reveal a lunar landscape that contrasts with lives marked by colonial legacies and the cost of European wealth. Her work is largely inspired by her long stay in South America during the pandemic. Winner of several awards at the 65th Krakow Film Festival, her documentary Silver is both fascinating and terrifying, recounting the history of the silver mines of Potosí and the invisible victims of globalization.
