Following our success at the Bib de Lettertuin in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre earlier this year, where we illuminated the library with a quote from Wisława Szymborska in Dutch, we’re thrilled to continue honoring this exceptional Polish poet and Nobel Prize winner, as well as to promote Polish literature.

Join us on Sunday morning, May 26, as we delve into the works of Wisława Szymborska together. The highlight of the event will be the unveiling of the new neon sign, serving as a tribute to her profound words. Following this, translator René Smeets will deliver a talk to deepen our understanding of her work.

After our talks, join us for some snacks and drink as we celebrate Szymborska’s enduring legacy.

The library Bib Jette offers a rich collection of books by Polish authors in Dutch, which is continually growing and evolving.

The neon installation was funded and brought to life by the Polish Institute Brussels to honor Wisława Szymborska on her 100th birthday in 2023. Wisława Szymborska (1923-2012), a Polish poet, translator, and literary critic, was the esteemed recipient of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Literature.
