Concert: EABS at the Uhoda Jazz à Liège Festival

EABS back to the roots reinventing Tomasz Stańko’s Purple Sun. The return to roots is not only manifested in the absence of guest instrumentalists and in the reduction of the band to a quintet, but it is also a return to the history of Polish jazz. The debut album EABS Repetitions… was dedicated to Krzysztof Komeda.

This time, the band took on the entire Purple Sun disc, which Tomasz Stańko recorded half a century ago. From the point of view of fans of this hard-to-find and somewhat forgotten album, this task may seem doomed to failure. However, in order to pay tribute to one of the most iconic figures of Polish jazz, it was worth undertaking this mission and attempting to engage in a non-verbal discussion with the Slavic spirit that the Polish trumpeter undoubtedly was.

EABS reinterprets the Polish jazz tradition through an exciting fusion of hip-hop, contemporary jazz and electronic music. EABS started its musical activity in 2012 as Electro-Acoustic Beat Sessions in the now defunct Puzzle club in Wrocław, where local musicians were busy “reconstructing the prefabricated hip-hop deconstruction of jazz”. Such a sophisticated initiative was the band’s starting point more than a decade ago. Their latest album, Reflections of Purple Sun, is a return to the roots of Polish jazz, taking over the entire Purple Sun album by Tomasz Stańko, to pay homage to one of the most iconic figures of Polish jazz.
