Formed in 2014, Coals brings together singer and visual artist Kacha Kowalczyk and composer and producer Łukasz Rozmysłowski, also known as Lucassi. Both originally from Silesia, the two artists met online and began by sharing their home recordings on YouTube.
Their music blends dream pop, ambient, R&B and trap rhythms into a sound they describe as “cold pop”. Kacha’s voice intertwines with electronic textures, piano melodies and guitars. Beneath their apparent softness, the songs reveal a sense of otherness, somewhere between nostalgia and a desire to escape.
From their debut album Tamagotchi (2017) to Sanatorium (2024), via the EP Klan (2019) and docusoap (2020), Coals have developed a musical language that moves between pop songs and more experimental forms. Childhood memories, internet culture and the imagery of the 1990s also shape their artwork and music videos. With a background in photography and visual arts, Kacha plays a central role in this aspect of the project.
Having performed at festivals including Open’er, Primavera Sound and Iceland Airwaves, the duo brings this world to the stage, where intimate atmospheres meet more dance-driven moments.
At Botanique, Coals will share the bill with Clara Kimera. A co-founder of Agar Agar, the muscian explores a dreamlike pop sound in her solo work, carried by her voice, keyboards and melancholic guitars.
