Concert by the Meccore String Quartet

The Polish known as the Meccore String Quartet , made up of graduates of the Poznan and Warsaw schools of music, was founded in 2007. Since then, they have risen to international prominence, a feat which is the result of years of artistic research, during which they pioneered their own sound. Günter PICHLER, founder member of the legendary Alban Berg Quartet, feels that the Meccore String Quartet figures amongst the best ensembles of heir generation. You will have the chance to enjoy their musical gifts at their first big concert at BOZAR – Centre for Fine Arts, where they have chosen to play major works for string quartets by Joseph HAYDN (1722) and Karol SZYMANOWSKI (1927), via Pyotr Ilitch TCHAÏKOVSKI (1871).

The Meccore String Quartet is one of the young Polish chamber music ensembles which is proving the most popular with the punters. Active since 2007, its members are graduates of the Warsaw and Poznan conservatoires, the recipients of scholarships from various institutions, have taken a plethora of master classes – notably at the Chapelle musicale Reine Elisabeth – and won many musical competitions. The ensemble is characterized by its refined and surprising interpretations, its delicate and lively style, its playfulness and energy. Naturally, the quartet has a predilection for the Polish repertoire, which is not terribly well-known but, nevertheless, is very rich in terms of pieces for string quartets. In addition to Szymanowski, the works of Penderecki, Lutosławski and Górecki feature amongst those composers whose work will be showcased.

The Meccore String Quartet has performed in Belgium several times:
– The “Maria-Theresia”-auditorium (Leuven), 11 October 2017 (Debussy, Szymanowski) – see our site
– Palais des Beaux-Arts (Bozar – Centre for Fine Arts), 27 November 2016 (Grieg, Szymanowski) – see our site

Concert organised in the framework of The Centenary of Regaining Independence of the Republic of Poland.
Coproduction: Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels (BOZAR).
