Dorota Masłowska (born in 1981) is one of the best Polish writers of the younger generation.
Her books, acclaimed by both the public and critics, have long since spread beyond Poland’s borders: they have been translated into fourteen languages, including French, Dutch and English. In 2018, she published her latest book “Inni ludzie” (“Other People”) by Wydawnictwo Literackie. Its adaptation into the theatre by one of Poland’s leading directors Grzegorz Jarzyna is presented at the TR Warszawa Theatre. In 2020, the book “Inni ludzie” will be brought to the screen by Aleksandra Terpińska.
The discussion with Dorota Masłowska (in English) in the presence of Isabelle Jannès-Kalinowski, the translator of her books into French, will be moderated by Alicja Gęścińska, a Belgian philosopher and journalist of Polish origin.
The event is organised by the Polish Institute in Brussels.

About Dorota Masłowska
Dorota Masłowska (born July 3, 1983 in Wejherowo) is a writer, playwright, columnist, singer and producer of Polish music, winner of the Nike Literary Award (2006) for the novel Paw Queen. She made her literary debut at the age of 18 with “The Polish-Russian War under the White and Red Flag”, which was appreciated by both critics and the general public. This earned him the Paszport Polityki Prize in the Literature category, as well as the final of the 2003 Nike Literary Prize. The novel has been translated into several European languages.
Alicja Gęścińska
Belgian philosopher and journalist of Polish origin. In 1988, she fled communist Poland with her parents to start a new life in Belgium. Gescinska obtained a doctorate in philosophy from Ghent University and worked at Princeton University and Amherst College. In 2017, she won the Debuutprijs for her novel Een soort van liefde. For Canvas Wanderlust’s program, Gescinska travelled the world for two seasons to interact with contemporary thinkers, artists and writers.
Isabelle Jannès-Kalinowski
Isabelle is of French-Polish origin and translates Polish literature into English and French. She has translated several works by Dorota Masłowska but also the History of Polish Cinema by Tadeusz Lubelski (Septentrion, 2016), Wiera Gran, the accused (Grasset, 2011) and La fiancée de Bruno Schulz (Grasset, 2015) by Agata Tuszyńska as well as La nuit des Juifs-avants by Igor Ostachowicz (L’Antilope, 2016). Today, in parallel with her literary translations (dedicated to prose, theatre and poetry), she is involved in the adaptation of dialogues for dubbing and as a language coach for cinema.
