Anima Festival: polish animations in official selection and competitions

The Anima Festival, organized annually by ASBL Folioscope, is Belgium’s leading event dedicated exclusively to animation. Showcasing films created frame by frame – from traditional hand-drawn techniques to puppetry and digital creations – it features a diverse selection of works, ranging from short films and video clips to full-length features, for audiences of all ages. Recognized as one of Europe’s most important animation festivals, Anima is Oscar®-qualifying for Best Animated Short Film and celebrated for its warm atmosphere and unique traditions.

This year’s program highlights the global influence of Polish animation, including two films by Polish directors and two Polish co-productions:

  • “The Sleeplessness of Jutka” by Maria Maria Görlich-Opyd as part of the Short Films:  Animated Documentaries (Poland)
  • “Joko” by Izabela Plucińska as part of the International Competition – Professional Short Films (Poland)
  • “Lola and the Sound Piano” by Augusto Zanovello as part of the International Competition – Short Films for a Young Audience (France, Poland, Switzerland)
  • “[S]” by Mario Radev as part of the International Competition – Professional Short Films (United Kingdom, Poland, Bulgaria)
