Screening: “Jews by Choice” with the participation of director Justyna Gawełko
In the small Czech town of Krnov, located just across the border from Poland, a group of locals decide to rebuild a synagogue that was destroyed by a flood. Along the way, they choose to convert to Judaism and form the first Jewish community in this area since World War II. As they try to gain official recognition from the Jewish authorities, tensions and disagreements begin to challenge their unity. “Jews by Choice” is a thought-provoking story about faith, identity, and building community in one of the most secular countries in the world.
