2023年は、イェジ・ノヴォシェルスキ生誕100周年にあたります。偉大な画家、素描画家、舞台美術家、教育者、哲学者、芸術理論家、宗教思想家であった彼は、最も偉大な現代イコン画家の一人と評されています。
イェジ・ノヴォシェルスキは、芸術や信仰について多数のテキストを著しました。多数のローマ・カトリック、東方典礼カトリック、東方正教会の聖堂の内装や多色画を制作しました。世俗的な創作においては、前衛芸術やビザンチン絵画の伝統の傑作を援用しました。しばしば幾何学的抽象形態を用い、女性の裸体画や風景画を描きました。彼の芸術は今日に至るも、聖と俗の領域を結合させた唯一無二の現象と考えられています。
ポーランド共和国下院は、その業績の巨大な意義に思いを致し、画家を顕彰すべく、2023年をイェジ・ノヴォシェルスキ年に定めました。
