It’s that time of the year again: the Parc de Bruxelles/Warandepark is getting ready to host the Comic Strip Festival! For this year’s edition, which will take place over the weekend of 14, 15 and 16 September, we have invited several Polish artists: Berenika KOŁOMYCKA (the illustrator and writer behind the series Tiny fox and great boar), Joanna KARPOWICZ (illustrator, inter alia, of Anastazja and Sour Apple), Magdalena LANKOSZ (making her debut with the story of Anastazja) and Michał HENSLOK (representing publishing house Timof Comics).

EUNIC‘s stand, in the International pavillion, will be a place given over to presentations and book signings and will also give the public the chance to talk with artists and discover the latest delights Polish comic strips have to offer.
Berenika Kołomycka will be running a workshop entitled Colors and emotions in comics. As for Joanna Karpowicz, she will take part in a discussion panel on comic strips at international level. An exhibition of comics featuring work by both artists will be on display throughout the festival.

• • 14h – the Colors and emotions in comics workshop, organised by Berenika Kołomycka, will consist of thinking about comics using the following means: a story in black and white, neutral heroes, empty tefillin and a final box which is also empty. Participants will draw lots on topics such as horror, science-fiction, romanticism, fantasy, etc. On this basis, they will create a story with colours and words. For children from 9 years old (in English).
  • 15h – International discussion with artists from Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland (represented by Joanna Karpowicz) and Romania. The aim of the discussion is to explore the history and reality of comic book culture in the guests’ respective countries (in English).

Comic Strip Festival

Since its inauguration in 2010 by visit.brussels, the Comics Festival has come a long way. Launched after a year dedicated to Brussels about the 9th art, each year the Comics Festival welcomes nearly 100,000 visitors and more than 250 comics artists.

This year, the Comics Festival will once again be taking up its place in Brussels park where the traditional tents will be pitched over 14, 15 and 16 September coming. Aside from the regular giant balloon parade or the rally of cars drawn from the huts of the greatest comics, the Comics Festival offers lovers of the genre talks, screenings, signings and other activities suitable for all.
