WIKTORIA: Artist in residency

Wiktoria (b. 1991) is a visual artist who lives and works in Paris and Lublin. Her practice focuses on the idea of sculpture involving visitors’ participation and includes collages, photographs, films and performances. Wiktoria’s installations are often composed of shared conversations, ephemeral images, collected objects, and raw materials of human’s historical and natural surroundings. One of the most important elements of her projects is focus on people, their experiences, and their needs while portraying society and individuals. Her objects created to be touched, evoke a space for a collective yet intimate exchange of experiences.

During the residency at Komplot, the artist is developing her project Imprint-sculpture and turns to the local community to actively integrate them within the artwork. The artist placed a 3-ton stone in Albert Ier Square, especially for this occasion, to create a space for mutual experience, stopping, unusual contact and touch. While the artist will be doing the hard physical work throughout May, every passerby will be able to join in and touch the stone.

This is the artist’s first project of this scale carried out in an urban space, where the focus is to create a sculpture – a space to be touched. It also consists of everyday encounters and experiences, and conversations around this mysterious rock, which appeared overnight in the lives of the neighbours and will remain so. Because above all, this project is completed by people: their faces, hands, ears, human skin, and the space between the two natural surfaces. This historic 300 million-year-old stone will remain permanently in the common space, where intuitive gestures will overlap with the years, creating a space for joy and intimate rituals.

While the sculpture is the main and most important element of the residency, it will also be extended by an exhibition at Espace Lebeau – where you will find notes on the process, urban finds, as well as the artist’s previous works.
