Meeting in memory of Professor Zbigniew Religa 🗺
10 years ago, on March 8, 2009, a legendary Polish doctor, cardiac surgeon Zbigniew Religa passed away. A commemoration meeting in memory of Professor Zbigniew Religa will be held in the National Scientific Medical Library of Ukraine.
Professor Zbigniew Religa was the first doctor in Poland who performed heart transplant. He did everything possible to save patients. Due to his efforts, the queues for cardiac surgeries in Poland disappeared. Life and career of Zbigniew Religa are a great example for imitation.
After the opening of the exhibition in memory of the professor, there will be viewing of Łukasz Palkowski’s film “The Gods” (Poland, 2014, ‘112).
This is an unusual story about a rebel who challenged nature, authorities, and his own possibilities. The film tells about the first successful heart transplant in Poland performed by Prof. Religa in the city of Zabrze. The tension of failed surgeries, the battle for each heartbeat, great ambitions and painful losses, the loneliness of the genius who revolted against his teachers and started a revolution in the Polish medicine. What price did he pay for his success?
