“Poland-Ukraine: For Our Freedom and Yours”
Kyiv | 16 November | T. Shevchenko National University | Volodymyrska st., 60 | Beginning at 10:00 | Admission is free
Józef Piłsudski and Symon Petliura are often called “the architects of Polish-Ukrainian understanding”, because on April 21, 1920 they made a treaty aimed against the Soviet Russia on behalf of Poland and Ukraine. According to this document, Poland gave up on its eastern territories that had belonged to the Republic of Poland before the divisions, instead Ukraine gave up on eastern Galicia. Both Józef Piłsudski and Semen Petliura viewed Russia as the main threat to the independence of their countries.
These issues will be the theme of the conference “Poland-Ukraine: For Our Freedom and Yours”, held in the year of the 100th anniversary of restoration of independence of the both nations and 98th anniversary of the “Treaty of Warsaw”, which is organized by the Taras Shevchenko National University with the support of the Polish Institute in Kyiv. Poland will be represented at the conference by Prof. Janusz Odziemkowski and Prof. Waldemar Rezmer.
As part of the conference, there will be presentation of the book “Polish-Ukrainian Military Cooperation Throughout History”. The book includes reports of the conference held in the embassy of the Republic of Poland in Kyiv on December 16, 2015, in which prominent Polish and Ukrainian military historians participated.
