In 2018 Ukraine and Poland celebrate the 100th anniversary of the restoration of their independence. To celebrate the anniversary, three concerts of various genres are planned in Kyiv. The main idea of these concerts is to compare Polish and Ukrainian music – oratorial (29/09), choral (31/10), and symphonic (04/12).

The last concert of the cycle on December 4th draws attention to Ignacy Jan Paderewski, a prominent pianist, composer and politician, who was born in Ukraine in East Podolia and made a great impact on the history of Poland. His Symphony, written in 1903-1911, is dedicated to the Polish January Uprising in 1863 against the Russian rule in Poland. A quote from Dąbrowski’s Mazurka in the last part of the piece (today it is the national hymn of Poland) envisaged the events in which the composer himself would play a crucial part in a few years.
