International contest 2026 “Grandparents. Grand Stories. Family Treasures.”

The competition is open to elementary and secondary school students, university students, and educators from around the world.

Every family has treasures—objects passed down through generations that carry memories, stories, and connections to the past. These items might be photographs, letters, medals, documents, clothing, tools, or any other object that witnessed the events of the 20th century.
The 2026 edition of „Grandparents. Grand Stories“ invites you to explore the history behind these family treasures. What story does your family heirloom tell? How does it connect to the broader history of the 20th century? What memories and emotions does it hold?

Contest period:
Open until 1 March 2026, 23:59 CET
Who can participate:
Elementary and secondary school students, university students, and educators from around the world
Submission format:
Written description in English (max 5,000 characters) + at least one photograph of the treasure

Prizes in Each Age Category
Age categories:
• Up to 12 years old
• 13-17 years old
• 18 years and older

1st Place: €1,000 + promotion on enrs.eu and historylessons.eu + social media campaign

Entry Details:
Your submission should include:

• A description of your family treasure – What is it? Where did it come from? Who owned it?
• Its connection to 20th-century history – How does this object relate to historical events or periods?
• The personal story – What memories or emotions are attached to this treasure? What does it mean to your family?
• Historical context – Show awareness of the broader historical background

Technical requirements:
• Written work: Maximum 5,000 characters with spaces, in English
• Photograph: At least one image in JPG format
• All submissions must include signed consent forms
