Screening of ‘In the corner’, by Maciej Bartosz KRUK

The short film In the corner by young Polish director Maciej Bartosz KRUK is in competition in the category European fictional films in the 21st edition of the Leuven International Short Film Festival. The film will be screened on Thursday 3 December at 19:45 with the director in attendance.

In the corner (W narożniku – 20 min – Poland – in Polish with subtitles in English)
Iza, 20, is a promising boxer. She has put her heart and soul into preparing for an important fight, under the watchful eye of her father, who is also her trainer and with whom she shares  a passion for boxing. Just before the match, her father suggests that she fake the outcome of the match, in exchange for which an important promoter will be able to help them take part in a real championship in the future. Iza must choose between her dream and the values which she holds dear.

In the corner is Maciej Bartosz Kruk’s graduation project. He studies at the Gdynia Film School. This is his first film as a director.

Leuven International Short Film Festival
 
The 21st edition of the festival begins on Friday 27 November. It’s a festival which, from the very beginning, has been all about discovery, surprise, creativity and new talents. This year it will be showing no fewer than 240 films in the space of 9 days, presented in competition in different categories. What’s more, it is an Oscar-qualifying festival, which means that the winners of the various prizes are pre-selected for the 2017 Oscars!
