12-years-old Marek loves Venice. His family visits the free city for generations. His great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, and even his big brother Viktor spent their free time in Venice. Marek knows names of all streets and squares of Venice by heart but has never visited his favourite city. During the summer vacation of 1939, the boy’s dearest wish was to be fulfilled. But as the conflict with Germany begins, Marek’s father is drafted into the army. Children are sent to Zaleszczyki to the roomy villa of their eccentric aunt Weronika. There, in the basement, Marek and his friends create imaginary Venice with carnivals and other attractions of this city.
