erzy Stuhr is the chairman of the judges of II Odesa International Film Festival

The festival program includes 15 new films from around the world, including Poland. Joint Polish and Soviet production “Déjà vu” by director Juliusz Machulski will be presented as part of the “Made in Odessa” retrospective. The International Jury will be chaired by Jerzy Stuhr.

He was born April 18, 1947 in Kraków. He graduated from the Jagellonian University (Polish philology faculty) in 1970 and acting faculty of the Ludwik Solki Kraków State Film School in 1972. He worked with such well-known Polish theatrical directors as Konrad Swinarski, Jerzy Jarocki, Andrzej Wajda, Jerzy Grzegorzewski, and Bogdan Hussakowski. Stuhr debuted as a theatrical director in 1985 with Patrick Süskind’s one-man play “Double Bass”. He worked as the director of Teatr Ludowy in Kraków where he staged several shows gaining critical acclaim.

In 1970s Stuhr played several significant parts in the history of Polish cinema. He worked with such directors as Krzysztof Kieślowski, Juliusz Machulski, Feliks Falk, Andrzej Wajda, Krzysztof Zanussi, Nanni Moretti.

In 2007 he was chosen by readers of the FILM magazine as “the best actor in 50 years”, and in 2008 as “the best comedy actor in 50 years”. In 2007 Jerzy Stuhr received the special award for contribution to cinema at the Camerimage festival in Łodź. In 2011 he received one of the highest state awards, Polonia Restituta, from the president of Poland.
