Polish band Vołosi is an undoubtedly new phenomenon of the European world music scene. Vołosi was formed two years ago at the crossing of musical worlds and traditions. The band partly consists of classical musicians from the Karol Szymanowksi Academy in Katowice who dreamed of improvisation and were fascinated by folk music and its reassuring beauty and spontaneity. The rest are mountain dwellers who play as if they were from New Orleans of the jazz birth era. In the course of two years Vołosi have conquered Germany, Georgia, and made appearance on the largest festival stages of Poland. The band became a real discovery of the international festival ArtPole’2012, and will visit Ukraine again in the beginning of spring.
It is not accidental but very significantly appropriate that Vołosi come in the beginning of spring, as their music is like the first gust of the spring wind that wakes trees, breaks ice and makes rivers break their banks. They combine the highest performer skills with ease and energy with classical refinement. Cello, double bass and violins in the hands of these inspired virtuosos give birth to the music that is incredibly familiar and at the same time unusual, unknown, elusive.
