Concert “Discoveries of polish oratory music”

The concert in Lviv promoting the music of composers who lived and created at the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri at Holy Mountain near Gostyń will undoubtedly prove to be a unique event.

The Kalisz Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Adam Klocek, will present a selection of their works. Some of these pieces come from as long ago as the turn of the 18th and 19th and centuries, have been preserved in the library of the Holy Mountain Monastery and are an important part of the Polish musical heritage. The most famous ones were written by Józef Zeidler who is often called “the Polish Mozart”.

The music will be performed by the Katowice City Singers’ Ensemble – Camerata Silesia and soloists: Iwona Hossa (soprano), Agnieszka Rehlis (mezzosoprano), Rafał Bartmiński (tenor), Robert Gierlach (baritone). Józef Zeidler spent most of his life in Gostyń and is regarded as one of the most outstanding representatives of the Polish Classicism. He joined the Holy Mountain Monastery around 1775 as a mature and already renowned musician and became a member of the Philippine priests’ ensemble. After the cassation of the order in 1876 Zeidler’s manuscripts were dispersed or destroyed and only 16 pieces have been preserved till our times.

The Kalisz Philharmonic Orchestra and Camerata Silesia will perform interpretation of Zeidler’s Prayer for Rain and Pastorella. His D-dur Mass will be a leading part of the programme. This composition was written with genuine youthful bravery and its numerous solo arias, duets and melodic instrumental passages are extremely challenging in interpretation. The core of the Mass ex D are choirs, often supported by very effectful violin and trumpet parts.

The programme to be presented at the Lviv Cathedral during the concert on 11 September 2016 comprises only a small part of accomplishments of Polish composers connected with the Congregation of the Philippine Priests at the Holy Mountain. Discovering this forgotten Polish music is the main objective of the Holy Mountain Music Lovers’ Association. Owing to the Musica Sacromontana Festival and contemporary recordings of the music written by such great composers as Józef Zeidler or Antoni Habel, we can discover the importance of the Holy Mountain Sanctuary and its musical traditions for the Polish culture.
