49th “Molodist” International Film Festival in Kyiv

“Molodist” International Film Festival is the largest regular film event in Ukraine according to FIAPF. Every autumn the festival presents more than 250 films from all the world. The competition program comprises student films, short- and full-length film debuts.

The “Polish component” of this year :

International Competition. Full-Length Films

The Taste of Pho (Poland, Germany, 2019, dir. – Mariko Bobrik)

A Warsaw-based Vietnamese cook struggles to fit into the European culture, which his ten-year-old daughter has already embraced as her own. A story about love, misunderstanding and food.

International Competition. Student Films

The Little Soul (Poland, 2019, dir. – Barbara Rupik)

A dead body become stuck by riverbank. It decaying insides still hide a human soul. Rotting organs part and a tiny creature gets out. Standing on the river bank, it says goodbye to the corpse and sets off on a journey through the post-mortem land.

National Competition. Short Films

On a Way Back (Ukraine, Poland, 2019, dir. – Mykola Ridnyi)

Because of the decommunization laws, paintings and sculptures of socialist realism at the National Art Museum of Ukraine are trapped in complicated political circumstances. Will those works be brought back to the museum after its reconstruction?

ANIMATION FILMS

Such a Beautiful Town (Poland, 2019, dir. – Marta Koch)

In order to face her unfaithful companion, a young woman walks alone through the city, which, along the streets, becomes more and more suffocating and hostile.

Rain (Poland, 2019, dir. – Piotr Milczarek)

A luck of collective accountability begins to bear a heavy burden for one set of shoulders. A corporate tragicomedy.

DOCUMENTARY FILMS

We Will Talk Again (Poland, 2019, dir. – Mateusz Buława)

Two brothers on the threshold of adulthood are still under the custody of their mother, supported by their grandmother. In a cluttered flat, they fight for every smallest bit of autonomy.

Polish film expert Krzysztof Gierat will be a member of the NATIONAL COMPETITION JURY.
