Odesa International Film Festival is the festival which has one of the largest audiences in Eastern Europe. It is an annual film festival held in cinema capital of Ukraine – Odesa. Founded in 2010 for the popularization of high-level intellectual films among Ukrainian viewers and also for support, development of cinema inside the country and on the international stage. Festival became the brightest summer film event and took its place on the world film map. Exclusive film premieres, workshops of leading world filmmakers and unique festive atmosphere – all of this bring together Odesa International Film Festival!

“Ikar. The Legend Mietek Kosz”

(dir. – Maciej Pieprzyca, Polska, 2019)

Mietek loses sight as a child. His mother enrolls him to the Laski Center for Blind Children run by nuns, where he learns that music can be a way of seeing and communicating with the world. He pursues a classical piano education until he discovers music of Bill Evans. From this moment on, he has only one goal – to become the best jazz pianist in Poland.

“Numbers”

In the world of Numbers everything falls under the will of a strict system and its supreme ruler, the Zero. Ten characters are used to go running in circles and doing everything according to the Book of Rules. They can’t choose how to live and whom to love. Their life changes when a new resident who is not aware of their laws arrives. His disobedience destroys the tranquility of the passive authority. Suddenly, the once unwavering faith of the Numbers is broken into pieces. Now they want to run their life, obtain names and create a new world with their own rules to be followed. Numbers betray the old system, but will the new order be better than the previous one?

It is a story of a confined society trying to overcome its fears and regain freedom.

“Charlatan”

Based on the true story of Czech healer Jan Mikolášek who dedicated his life to treat the sick using medicinal plants. Mikolášek won fame and fortune treating celebrities of the interwar, Nazi, and Communist eras with his uncanny knack for “urinary diagnosis”. But his passion for healing welled up from the same source as a lust for cruelty, sadism, and an incapacity for love that only one person could ever quell – his assistant, František. As a show trial threatens to pry open these secrets and undo him, Jan’s dichotomies are put to a final test, with the fate of his life’s only love in the balance.
