The Days of Polish Cinema is a project of the Polish Institute in Kyiv, which will be held for the fifteenth time this year – this time on-line on polskino.takflix.com.
The program traditionally includes the most interesting works of Polish cinema of two recent years, which have already received awards of prestigious international film festivals and viewers’ and critics’ acclaim.

The arrival of the young, charismatic preacher is an opportunity for the local community to begin the healing process after a tragedy that happened there. Dramatic story about three people involved in a love relationship. Kacper (Bartłomiej Topa) working as mine foreman has an affair with the wife of his friend, Oskar (Łukasz Simlat), also a miner. In order to meet his lover, Magda (Julia Kijowska), Kacper sends Oskar to work in distant and dangerous mine sections.
During their another meeting, there is a rockburst in the mine, and Oskar gets stuck in a collapsed drift. Lovers rush into the rescue operation while struggling with guilt and the awareness that they indirectly contributed to the drama of the trapped husband and friend. The deep affection they have for each other is not helpful for them at all. Too many questions, decisions not taken still remain unsolved, and the inability to confront the missing husband forces the lovers to search for answers in themselves.

A universal story about entering adulthood in difficult times, growing up to the community. The great history is the background for the love story unfolding in the foreground: Józek, a deserter from the tsarists army who joins the emerging Legions, an intelligence agent for the I Brigade and Women’s Leage member – Ola and Tadek, her fiancee, a member of Shooting Team.
Apart from fictitious characters whose stories were modeled on the biographies of real legionnaires, many historical figures appear in the film. Among them: Brigadier Józef Pilsudski, Lieutenant Stanislaw Kaszubski, pseud. “King” and many others. The film focuses on the Legion’s combat trail from1914-1916, from the departure from Oleandry to the battle of Kosciuchnowka and show the most dramatic cards of the legionary epic, including the famous attack of uhlans at Rokitna – one of the most spectacular scenes in the film.
