»We are klezmer, that’s why we improvise above all, always in search of something new –, even within ourselves. Improvisation is a gateway through which the worlds of our souls come directly to those who want to discover them. Our music should simply be called Kroke music«, announces the band Kroke at the beginning of their website.

Klezmer and more
The Krakow-based ensemble, which was initially associated exclusively with klezmer music, draws inspiration from ethnic music in its current works and combines it with its own improvisations. Kroke sometimes even interweaves avant-garde, bebop, tango and klezmer within a single piece.

Prominent admirers
The Polish band is appreciated worldwide: Steven Spielberg invited them to Jerusalem to perform at the »Survivors Reunion Ceremony«. Thanks to Peter Gabriel, the group took part in the WOMAD festival in the UK. The piece »The Secrets of The Life Tree«, interpreted by Kroke, became part of the soundtrack to David Lynch’s film »Inland Empire«. The encounter between Kroke and Nigel Kennedy resulted in the joint album »East Meets East«.

Playful debut
In recent years, the band has worked with a number of renowned artists from the fields of jazz, chanson, world music and classical music. With its album »Loud Silence«, the Polish trio is now introducing itself to a local audience.
