Home—Topia is based on the assumption that various forms of mobility, migration and life on the move have become one of the basic characteristics of today’s world. Moving from place A to place B has become a regular part of our lives. Emigration, forced or voluntary, across national borders or from village to metropolis, is the quintessential experience of our time. This experience brings with it, among other things, changes in understanding the notion of home, as in the individual perception of oneself and the others.
The exhibition project stimulates a dialogue between the five artists from Central and Eastern Europe, questioning the perception of one’s own cultural identity and ties to one’s first territory. Home—Topia seeks to confront different perspectives and reflect on life between two countries and search for various definitions of the notion of home and its connection to the physical spaces and locations.
Home–Topia was supported by Polnisches Institut Berlin, Slowenisches Kulturzentrum Berlin and Tschechisches Zentrum Berlin.
