Stooge, Stooge of Berlin, SOB, or Idle Server, is pleased to announce the opening of its offline exhibition space in Charlottenburg and its inaugural exhibition titled ‘Kinetic Mugger’.

‘Kinetic Mugger’ takes its name from a side-scrolling computer game of the late 1990s. The game had seemingly irresolvable glitchy code, senseless proto-GTA ultra-violence, and a harsh electronic soundtrack. Never officially published, it was hidden, unsolicited, as an Easter egg on ARTPIX 1, a Contemporary Art CD ROM series curated by the painter Thomas Lawson. This ancient artifact seemed relevant to us again in our own founding moment. Which is to say, ‘Kinetic Mugger’ is a side-scrolling exhibition. And by that, we mean it is essentially horizontal, but punctuated with some violent verticality.

The current iteration, conversely, is rigorously coded and follows its own internal logic. As such, it offers work by a singular group of artists working in a broad range of media and theoretical positions, from poetic lyricism to vulgar shitposting to life-destroying conceptualism.

‘Kinetic Mugger’ begins on Thursday, June 6th, 2024 with an opening reception from 6 pm. The exhibition closes July 20th with a celebration held for the artists from 6-9 pm.
