Tomasz Stanko, a jazz trumpeter, composer and bandleader of international fame.
His trumpet’s one and only sound may be heard at the most prestigious venues throughout the world and on records produced and released by renowned, Munich-based ECM Records. Tomasz Stanko’s music has been honored with many awards, recently including the 2002 European Jazz Award, the 2004 and 2005 Australian Bell Awards for the Best Jazz Album of the Year for Soul of Things and Suspended Night, the Polonia Restituta Commander Cross for the whole body of work, and the Gloria Artis Medal of Merit for Culture. He is one of a few European jazzmen greatly appreciated in the USA, the cradle of jazz. In 2005, 2007 and 2008 Tomasz Stanko was voted the sixth best trumpeter by the world’s leading US Down Beat magazine.
Following three enormously successful US tours the Tomasz Stanko Quartet, embarked on yet another one in October 2006, this time to promote its new ECM release, Lontano. The New Yorker praised Tomasz Stanko as „one of the most original and creative jazz trumpet players in the world and The New York Times heralded him as „Trumpeting Freedom: in Spirit, Thought, and Jazz“. Lontano was ranked the sixth best record of the year by Down Beat and Jazz Times, and the fourth best by Jazzwise.
While critics often compare him to Miles Davis and Chat Baker, Tomasz Stanko has developed his own unique artistic language. The lyrical, piercing tone of his trumpet, magical and mesmerizing mood of his music, and extraordinary charisma of his leadership and personality are the cornerstones of Tomasz Stanko’s mystique.

Marcin Wasilewski Trio
Mit ihren knapp über 30 Jahren kann man Pianist Marcin Wasilewski, Bassist Slawomir Kurkiewicz und Schlagzeuger Michal Miskiewicz ohne weiteres noch als junge Musiker bezeichnen. Dessen ungeachtet können die drei aber schon auf eine bewegte und lange gemeinsame Geschichte zurückblicken. Ihr zweites ECM-Album „January“ (Anfang 2007 unter der Regie von Produzent Manfred Eicher in New York eingespielt), das durch ein außergewöhnlich breitgefächertes Programm besticht, ist ein beeindruckendes musikalisches Statement, das keinen Zweifel daran lässt, dass dieses Trio zurecht den Ruf genießt, eines der absolut herausragenden zeitgenössischen Jazzensembles zu sein. Der Trompeter Tomasz Stanko, der Freund und Mentor des Trios ist, schwärmt in den höchsten Tönen von seinen „Zöglingen“: „In der gesamten Geschichte des polnischen Jazz hat es eine solche Band noch nie gegeben. Sie werden einfach immer besser und besser.“ Durch Stankos 2001 entstandene ECM-Einspielung „Soul Of Things“ (ECM 1788) bekam die Jazzwelt außerhalb Polens erstmals eine Vorstellung von den Ausnahmetalenten dieser drei jungen Musiker. Seitdem haben sie mit Stanko etliche internationale Tourneen absolviert und auch seinen 2003 und 2005 aufgenommenen Quartett-Alben ihren Stempel aufgedrückt.
