The main idea of the project is the artistic intervention of Polish and Ukrainian artists into the city space by creation of a special atmosphere on the Ivan Franko street in Kyiv. Within the project, the artists will give a new individual character to the stairs that are on this street. These stairs, apart from the traditional connection of two parallel streets, will be the place for the symbiosis of Polish and Ukrainian art. Artists who will participate in the project have completed several attention-getting projects in the past.
The following artists will represent Poland in the “Stairs” project:
Elżbieta Jabłońska (1970) is engaged in performance art, painting, graphic art and photography.
Janusz Bałdyga (1954) is a performer and teacher. He also draws and creates spatial installations and compositions.
Jadwiga Sawicka (1959) is a painter and photographer, and also an author of objects, installations and works (often text ones) in the public space.
Ukraine will be represented by the laureate of the Malevich Award of 2008 Alevtyna Kakhidze and the “R.E.P.” group.
