Janusz Korczak and his final moments – meeting in the Polish Talks – Mondays with JHI series

A meeting dealing with the story of Janusz Korczak and his final moments led by sociologist and anthropologist Dr. Agnieszka Witkowska-Krych.

Another meeting in the Polish Talks – Mondays with JHI series will be held on Monday January 10 2022 at 7 p.m. and will discuss the story of

Janusz Korczak and his final moments.

Led by Dr. Agnieszka Witkowska-Krych, this is one part of an entire series which will introduce between the audience and fascinating topics from the

Jewish past of Poland.

The result of our cooperation with Moreshet Center, the Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute (JHI) in Warsaw and the Union of Israeli Guides to Poland.

At the center of this meeting is a lecture on the legendry figure of Janusz Korczak which will focus on the deportation of the orphanage house residents from the Warsaw Jewish Ghetto

to Treblinka and the final moments of Korczak who decided to walk with the children of the orphanage, as documents and testimonies from that time prove.

 Janusz Korczak was a Jewish writer, medical doctor, publicist and thinker but first of all he was a great pedagog and the head of the Warsaw Orphanage which was founded in 1912.

The meeting will be hosted by Noam Leibman from Moreshet.

 Dr. Agnieszka Witkowska-Krych is a sociologist and cultural anthropologist.

Her Phd was devoted to the fate of the orphaned Jewish children at the Warsaw Jewish Ghetto.

Today she is employed by the Institute Of Polish Culture, Faculty Of Polish Studies, at Warsaw University as well as the JHI.

She wrote the book Less fear: Last moments with Janusz Korczak that won the 2019 KLIO award for best work on a historical topic.
