Special event marking the International Holocaust Remembrance Day

The International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of the German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp Auschwitz were marked at the special dance performance by the Israeli dancer and choreographer Anat Oz on 29 January 2025 at the Suzanne Dellal Centre in Tel Aviv. The event was produced in cooperation of the Embassy of Poland and the Polish Institute in Tel Aviv

An important and exciting collaboration of the Polish Institute, the Embassy of Poland and Anat Oz – an Israeli dancer and choreographer of Polish origin and the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors. In her speech prior to the event, Anat said – “I feel obliged, on behalf of my grandparents, their families, and all the war victims, to celebrate life. I feel obliged to take personal responsibility and live a life marked by humanity, sensitivity and unity. I have to imagine the world in which I want to live, the world in which I am I want to raise my daughter – a world worth surviving for – and make this vision a reality.”

After the show, one of the guests wrote to us:

There is no doubt that no one left the hall indifferent, and everyone experienced the story in their own way – but we all received, as human beings, a lesson about tragic history. A huge applause for the artists – for dancers, musicians and choreographer! We see great value and positive importance in remembering the concentration camps and talking about the Holocaust in unconventional, contemporary ways, through the eyes and language of the new generations. Sensitivity, intelligence, respect – while at the same time crossing the boundaries of imagination and searching for an artistic language to deal with a subject that many consider “inexpressible”. Thanks to all of these, last night’s work was able to bear the weight of the Holocaust. It will remain remembered for a long time! It is wonderful that the Polish Embassy and the Polish Institute support such important and courageous works, precisely because they break conventions. Thank you for such an exciting evening”.
