On May 3rd Poland marks Constitution Day in honour of the 1791 document that is regarded as the first codified modern constitution in Europe and second in the world
(coming 3 years after America’s).
After gaining its independence in 1918, Poland established May 3 as a holiday, but it was not celebrated until 1990, after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Nowadays Poland and Poles are marking this day with Family picnics, military parades or sport competitions.
