The Polish Institute is proud to support this year’s Akko Festival and bring the play “The Survivors”, a documentary monodrama by acclaimed Polish playwright Agnieszka Pszczółkowska, directed by Maja Kleczewska.
Based on the harrowing true story of Irena K., a 12-year-old girl imprisoned in the Zieleniak transit camp during the Warsaw Uprising, the play gives voice to the silenced experiences of women who were victims of wartime rape. Through a blend of personal testimonies, diary excerpts, and heartbreaking memories, this production shines a light on a painful and still-relevant issue that echoes in every conflict zone today.
“At the time, I had a white ribbon pinned to my hair…”
A single sentence that ends 80 years of silence – and becomes a powerful theatrical outcry.
