Poland and Israel meet on one canvas – lecture by Jonathan Hirschfeld

A lecture by the artist, curator, and writer Jonathan Hirschfeld, who will lead the audience on a visual and intellectual journey through Jewish and Israeli art and explore the influence of Polish art and culture on their creations

How do the echoes of Maurycy Gottlieb — one of the most prominent Jewish-Polish painters — and Jan Matejko, who captured Poland’s history in monumental works, still resonate in contemporary Israeli art?

On Friday, September 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM, the Polish Institute and the Association for Israeli–Polish Cultural Relations invite you to begin your weekend with a morning of inspiration, thought, and creativity.

Artist, curator, and writer Jonathan Hirschfeld will take us on a visual and intellectual journey through Jewish art in Poland, its historical influences, and how they continue to live and echo in Israeli artistic expression today.

During the event, artworks by three Israeli artists of Polish descent will be on display. The artists will take part in an open discussion with the audience, sharing their personal stories, sources of inspiration, and intercultural connections found in their work.
