Polish history of Tel Aviv – holiday tours

More than 150 people took part in three unique guided walks led by historian and guide Jan Kirschenbaum. The walks introduced participants to places, figures, and stories illustrating how the community of Polish Jews influenced the development of Tel Aviv and helped shape the State of Israel.

How accurate is the popular claim that Polish Jews played a key role in the building of Israel? How did this community develop, during which periods did it arrive to  Israel, and how did it maintain its ties to Polish culture Participants in the holiday tours sought answers to these questions. During the walks, they visited locations where, among others, the legendary bookstore of Ada and Edmund Neustein operated, as well as the Polish-Palestinian Chamber of Commerce and the Tel Aviv branch of PKO – the Polish National Bank.

The walks, conducted in Hebrew, began and ended at Rothschild Boulevard 3 in Tel Aviv. After the tours, participants were invited to enjoy mulled wine and Hanukkah doughnuts at the headquarters of the Polish Institute.

The events were met with great enthusiasm from the public. All available spots were fully booked within a few hours of the announcement, and the Institute’s communication channels were flooded with hundreds of messages regarding participation in the guided walks. As a result, the Institute organized an additional event and plans to continue the project in 2026.

Those interested in upcoming guided tours around Tel Aviv are kindly invited to follow the monthly newsletter of the Polish Institute, alongside our website, and the social media channels (Facebook and Instagram) . See you soon!
