Film screening & panel discussion: “Erase the Nation” #SolidarityWithUkraine
25.04,2023, 19:00 / Polnisches Institut Berlin
Targeting of cultural heritage is an attack on the essential part of the unique cultural identity of communities. Since the 24th of February 2022, the destruction of cultural sites in Ukrainian cities continues. Official records reported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine enumerate over 1200 objects being targeted. The Russian troops are stealing museum artifacts in an organized manner, looting archaeological sites, and destroying public buildings important for local communities – including libraries, archives, and religious sites.
The documentary film “Erase the Nation” directed by Tomasz Grzywaczewski shows the brutal destruction of Ukraine’s cultural heritage by the Russian Federation’s troops. The film shows the deliberate destruction of Ukrainian monuments from Lviv, Chernivtsi, Ivankiv, Kyiv and Kharkiv to Izium and Bohorodychy in eastern Ukraine. Testimonies of Ukrainian cultural representatives paint a shocking picture of the deliberate actions of barbaric invaders against Ukrainian identity.
