“Poles and Germans. Stories of the Dialog” exhibition

“Poles and Germans. Stories of the Dialog” exhibition appeared on the basis of the permanent outdoor exhibition “Courage and Reconciliation” in Krzyżowa near Świdnica, prepared by the Museum of History of Poland together with the “Krzyżowa” Foundation for European reconciliation on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Mass of Reconciliation.

In 1965 Polish bishops sent a letter to their German colleagues about the necessity of reconciliation. The letter began the long process of Polish-German reconciliation. On November 12, 1989 in Krzyżowa the Mass of Reconciliation was conducted by the bishop of Opole Alfons Nossola with the participation of the first non-Communist Prime Minister of Poland Tadeusz Mazowiecki and the Chancellor of the then uniting Germany Helmut Kohl. The Mass in Krzyżowa was conducted three days after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Today the gesture of both heads of states is perceived as the symbol of Polish-German reconciliation.
