Interwar Modernism – London and Central Europe

at London Festival of Architecture

The end of WWI brought new social and political realities that shaped the development of culture and architecture in Europe in the following decades.

This online discussion panel will analyse the phenomenon of modernist architecture of the interwar period in Central Europe and London, juxtaposing the leading architectural examples and comparing various interpretations of modernism in architecture from the perspective of then-emerging countries and the West.

Iconic historian and critic Joseph Rykwert along with curator of the exhibition ‘Architecture of Independence in Central Europe’ at the International Cultural Centre in Krakow, dr Michał Wiśniewski will join a discussion with Jeremy Melvin, visiting professor at The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, to explore many faces of modernist architecture in Europe in 1920s and 1930s.

This event will be pre-recorded and streamed via Polish Cultural Inistute’s Facebook and YouTube channel. You can also tune in to this event any time after it is streamed.
