A Sense of Perspective – Kacper Kowalski’s works @ Atlas Photography Gallery
26 January – 16 March 2024, Atlas Photography Gallery
A first solo exhibition of the Polish photographer Kacper Kowalski is being shown at the Atlas Photography Gallery until 16th March 2024.
A Sense of Perspective exhibition presents the world beneath and offers us a spiritual journey revealing universal truths about the relationship between man and nature, past and present, and about one’s own personal truth and the way to get there. Atlas Photography Gallery brings together works from some of Kowalski’s earliest and most recent series: Depth of Winter (2010), Toxic Beauty (2011), Side Effect (2011) and Over (2016), Arche (2021) and Event Horizon (2022).
Kacper Kowalski has been capturing landscapes from aerial perspective for over 25 years now. Being a paraglider and a pilot of small aircrafts, he flies into the air with an engine strapped to his back to discover the world of forms, shapes and patterns during lonely flights. While fighting with natural forces, he spent over 5000 hours the air, taking photographs from 150 metres above the ground level. He considers this altitude a “human distance”, creating an intriguing paradox of still recognising Earth objects but simultaneously seeing them in their natural architectural scale. Nature photographed by Kacper seems to communicate with him in the language of symbols that appears on his photos.
Kowalski received numerous awards, including the World Press Photo award three times and the Picture of the Year International POYi six times. He has also published several books that have won and been nominated to the most prestigious prizes, including Les Prix du Livre at Rencontres d’Arles.
Entry to the Atlas Photography Gallery is FREE of charge.
