Artificial Kreativity presents Kreative Talks with Peter Murray OBE
Kreative Talks are the stories behind the creatives and how they are shaping the world.

From launching Blueprint magazine with Deyan Sudjic to co-founding NLA and the first London Architecture Biennale (London Festival of Architecture), Peter Murray OBE has played a pivotal role in shaping architecture in London and beyond. Join us as he shares his inspiring story about studying architecture, working in journalism, and growing into a leader who continues to influence generations of architects.

Biography
Few people have influenced London’s architectural discourse more than Peter Murray. Over 20 years ago, he founded the London Festival of Architecture as a platform for bringing architects and communities together. Murray also co-founded New London Architecture (NLA) with the aim of helping to shape a better city.

As an alumnus of the Architectural Association, he pursued journalism and soon became editor of Building Design, followed by the RIBA Journal (Graphic Design). He launched Blueprint magazine with Deyan Sudjic in 1983 and published Tate Magazine (for the Tate Gallery) and Eye (Graphic Design). He co-curated the seminal Royal Academy Exhibition 0f 1986 – ‘New Architecture – the work of Foster, Rogers, Stirling. ‘His writings continue as the author of ‘Saga of Sydney Opera House,’ ‘A Passion to Build’, ‘Architecture and Commerce’ and ‘London’s Great Estates’.

Peter is a regular commentator and broadcaster on London issues, bringing a voice to urban development in the city. He has shown strong civic leadership as a former Mayor of London’s Design Advocate and as a board member of Be First, Barking and Dagenham’s regeneration Delivery Company. Professionally, he has served as Chairman of The Temple Bar Trust and Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects. His global advocacy includes sustainable and innovative building practices through his roles as a Trustee of Earth Architecture Lab and Urban World Matters.

He was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1999. In 2021, he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) “for services to leadership in the arts, architecture, city planning, design, publication and to charity.” He was recently awarded the Lynn S. Beedle Lifetime Achievement Award by the Council on Vertical Urbanism (CVU). Beyond architecture, he is a keen cyclist who campaigns for active travel, safer cycling, and healthier cities.
