Talk: On Zofia Rydet led by curator and art historian Karolina Ziębińska

Karolina Ziębińska will explore Rydet’s unique photographic language and place her work within the cultural, historical and ideological landscapes of 20th-century Poland.

Best known for her monumental project The Sociological Record (1978–1997), Rydet photographed the interiors and inhabitants of Polish homes, creating an extraordinary visual archive of everyday life during a rapidly changing era.

Karolina Ziębińska will explore Rydet’s unique photographic language and place her work within the cultural, historical and ideological landscapes of 20th-century Poland. A fascinating look at how photography shapes our understanding of identity, memory and social history.

It is produced by The Photographers’ Gallery in partnership with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Zofia Rydet Foundation. UK/Poland Season 2025 is organised by the British Council, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Polish Cultural Institute, financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Poland.
