Review of films by Jerzy Hoffman at POSK!

On the 90th anniversary of the famous director's birthday.

POSK CINEMA invites you to a review of films by Jerzy Hoffman on the 90th anniversary of the famous director’s birthday. There is probably no one among his fellow countrymen who would not know or have seen at least some of the works of this legendary filmmaker. Jerzy Hoffman’s films have become an element of the cultural consciousness of many generations of Poles, and they have become an integral part of the canon of Polish cinematography. The film adaptation of “Deluge” made by Hoffman was watched by 27 million viewers. The film was nominated for an Oscar, Arthur Rubinstein cancelled his concert then to be able to come to the screening of this film, and Hoffman was offered to stay in the States and work in Hollywood right away!.. Great success indeed, but he decided to return to Poland.

He gained fame primarily as the creator of the adaptation of the Henryk Sienkiewicz’s “Trilogy” (“Colonel Wołodyjowski”, “Deluge”, “With Fire and Sward”), set in the times of the 17th-century Polish Republic. He also directed drama and war films. Jerzy Hoffman’s fascination with historical themes strongly stands out in his diverse fictional works. The director specialized in spectacular shows, as well as in the so-called popular cinema, gaining admiration of a huge number of viewers and extraordinary popularity.
