Music from Chopin’s Land

An international project by Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne.

Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne launches another edition of its international campaign promoting Polish music. After two editions dedicated to the piano, the time has come for works for the violin. The project will promote works by Henryk Wieniawski and Grażyna Bacewicz, transcriptions of works by Fryderyk Chopin and Ignacy Jan Paderewski, as well as other Polish composers. There will be no shortage of pedagogical creativity.

The international project “Music from Chopin’s Land” is aimed at beginner and intermediate violinists and their teachers from Italy, France, Great Britain, Japan, Germany and Austria. Its aim is to promote works for the violin by Polish composers and, as a result, to expand the educational and concert repertoire to include works by Karol Szymanowski, Zygmunt Noskowski, Adam Wroński, Krzesimir Dębski and many other lesser-known composers whose works have educational and concert-worthy qualities.

As part of the project, five series consisting of five demonstration lessons were created, presenting educational aspects of works by selected Polish composers. Each series is delivered in the chosen language of the partner Land, and the introduction of subtitles with translations enables active use of all 25 tutorials. Leading the way through Polish music are violinist-educators who discuss the works from a performance and interpretation perspective, supplementing their statements with factual technical guidance. A bonus added to the demonstration lessons are sample recordings of the songs presented in the tutorials.

Educational tutorials were prepared and recorded by violinists and educators from 5 countries: Steven Bingham (UK), Eduoardo Zosi (IT), Nora Scheidig (GER), Shirly Laub (FR) and Kyoko Ogawa (JP). The pieces presented in the tutorials were recorded in their entirety by the charismatic Polish violinist Agata Szymczewska – the subject matter expert of the campaign, winner of the 13th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition. Video footage is available on the project’s website: www.fromchopinsland.com

There will be live meetings organized with Agata Szymczewska and Wojciech Szymczewski accompanying her on the piano. During the concerts and master classes they will present the richness of Polish violin music included in the project “Music from Chopin’s Land”. Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne would like to invite you to this year’s Mondomusica trade fair in Cremona, 24th and 25th of September, where you will have the opportunity to hear one of the best Polish violinists of her generation play live. Promotion of the campaign includes also three events in Great Britain. Concerts and masterclasses will be held 4th of November in Cardiff (The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama), 5th of November in Chichester (University of Chichester) and 7th of November in London (Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance).

The Project’s Partners: ESTA, Archi, Sarasate, Polish Institutes in London, Rome, Paris, Berlin and Tokyo, Hal Leonard Europe, Universal Edition, Zen-On Music Co., Ltd.

The project “Music from Chopin’s Land” is financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as

part of the program “Inspiring Culture”.
