Exhibition at the Manggha Museum, Krakow

Art exhibition by the contemporary artist Bownik in Krakow. On the 22/07 the artist will deliver a personal tour of the exhibition ahead of the final day on the 23/07.

The exhibition is on until the 23/07 – on 22/07 there is a personal tour from the artist

If you are on a city break in the beautiful Krakow, head to the Japanese Art and Technology Museum for an unmissable exhibition.

The exhibition is titled Undercoat. It showcases several big format photos taken in the past few years. It displays the art of Bownik and is curated by Magdalena Ziółkowska.

In Polish, podszerstek [undercoat] does not remind us of the wardrobe, though this thick, soft, and trim layer of fur just beneath the outer fur plays an important thermal role. Undercoat, lining, bristle, hair…

The titular “undercoat” is present in the exhibition narrative through associations between the world of nature and humans, pointing to the cracks that exist between how we normally see things, between skimming the surface of contemporary events and technology’s consequences upon society and civilization, and meticulous observation of the state of objects, fleeting details which escape the proverbial “first glance.”

The themes explored by the artist include constructing, disassembling and modelling. They are evident throughout the exhibition provoking the observer to question their first glance.

The exhibition is taking place at the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art, Krakow
